Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is expected to attend the 37th Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center near the nation's capital. Click here to register.
BEYA is the premier gathering of diverse leaders and students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. This year's theme is “Becoming Everything You Are."
According to a plan released last year, Moore aims to produce 150,000 new STEM graduates, partner with businesses and entrepreneurs to market the state's research and technology and establish Maryland as the capital of Quantum.
The World Economic Forum stated recently that together with continuing advances in areas like artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and nanotechnology, quantum technology will accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Currently, 17 countries have invested in a national program of quantum technology research and development, while more than 150 have not. Leaders in quantum technology must commit to inclusivity in quantum education, in order to close the divide, the forum said.
Moore, the first African American elected governor in Maryland's history, has pledged to build the future workforce by driving students into STEM fields and creating new pathways to the workforce through affordable job training programs.
Moore aims to increase funding for apprenticeships, implement credentialing programs to get people the skills they need and ensure that every Maryland child has access to high-quality early childhood education.
The BEYA STEM Conference features career fairs, seminars, and workshops focused on building skills, exploring emerging technologies, and developing attributes for success. Attend in person, on the BEYA digital twin experience (DTX) platform, or both!
