Officially opened in February 2022, the Museum of the Future is an architectural icon in Dubai, UAE. The museum employs the latest virtual and augmented reality technologies, data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and human-machine interaction.
A permanent exhibition space for innovation, the intellectual center works closely with international partners and research entities to study the future, design new ideas, and create discussions about new trends.
The building is an engineering marvel, standing seventy-seven meters tall with no internal pillars. The entire surface of the building is made of developed glass and manufactured with innovative technologies to improve the interior and exterior thermal insulation quality.
The facade of the building extends over an area of 17,600 square meters. Made of stainless steel, the facade panels were produced using automated robotic arms and has one thousand twenty-four panels representing a kilobyte, a basic unit of the digital information system of computers. Each kilobyte is equal to 1024 bytes, 1024 symbols, or characters.
The museum’s facade is lit by 14,000 meters of programmable LED lighting and is the only building in the world that is entirely covered with Arabic calligraphy. The museum is an incubator for global visionaries and a comprehensive laboratory for future technologies, ideas, and cities.
The museum has seven floors dedicated to different exhibitions. Three floors focus on outer space resource development, ecosystems and

bioengineering, and health and wellbeing. The DNA vault is also known as the Library of Life. The glass jars contain more than 2000 species showcasing the tiniest details, which otherwise are invisible to the human eye. These glass jars are illuminated by light which makes the sight even more beautiful. The other floors showcase near-future technologies that address challenges in areas including health, water, food, transportation, and energy, while the last floor is dedicated to children. The green plateau in the museum represents stability and the strength of the Emirati experience.
The museum also includes a platform for displaying and testing the innovations of the world’s leading technology companies and a place for partnerships with major universities and international research institutes.
According to Lara On the Block published by Lara Abdul Malak, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council launched a metaverse strategy in March, which is expected to bring an estimated 5000 blockchain and metaverse companies to the city by 2027.
Malak said that the prince tweeted the Dubai Metaverse strategy will add 5 times more Blockchain and Metaverse companies to Dubai within the next five years. Dubai currently has 1000 Blockchain and metaverse entities, she reported.
“It will also add 40,000 new jobs in the virtual world and bring in 4 billion USD to Dubai’s economy in the next 5 years,” Sheikh Hamdan stated. “Today we have launched our metaverse strategy which is the next economic and technological revolution that will play a role in every facet of our lives for the next two decades to come. We currently have 1000 companies in Dubai who are working in this domain and who currently add 500 million USD yearly to our national economy; we expect this will increase in the near future.”
The Dubai metaverse strategy aims to encourage innovation in the metaverse, government utilization of the metaverse, and grow the talent base, all in a bid to make the UAE one of the top 10 globally in this field.
