Tennessee State University (TSU) has announced a summer program at the Avon Williams SMART Technology Center to learn about Open AI, including ChatGPT-4, Midjourney, and DALL-E-2, along with other AI tools like Text to Video and AI Audio that can revolutionize various fields and industries. According to TSU News, people of all skill levels are welcome, and no experience is required. The program will take place on Thursdays, June 22 or June 29, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and all necessary equipment will be provided.
Dr. Robbie Melton, the vice president of technology innovation strategies, interim provost, and acting vice president of academic affairs, will conduct artificial intelligence (AI) demonstrations starting June 5. These demos include creating curriculum and lessons in under 4 minutes and art and music in less than 2 minutes.
Dr. Melton leads the TSU SMART Global Technology Innovation Center, which researches the effective use of emerging technologies in education, including AI. Despite the educational challenges posed by AI, Melton believes that these technological advances have an immense educational value that can't be ignored. Recently, she conducted a national webinar for several historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) on the educational impact of AI for underrepresented groups and cultures.
Tennessee State University has the nation's only HBCU Smart Technology Innovation Center and has partnered with tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, T-Mobile, and Amazon to bridge the technology gap among HBCUs and communities of color.
