Emily Carr, a young dancer who gave a rousing performance at the 2018 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Gala, will be on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" Monday, June 18.
Eighteen-year-old Emily won a coveted place in the annual dance tribute done in honor of the Black Engineer of the Year.
After the performance, Emily met the 2018 Black Engineer of the Year, Alicia Boler Davis, executive vice president of General Motors Global Manufacturing. Boler Davis was recognized for her professional achievements and community service to science, technology, engineering, the Arts, and math (STEAM).

"To be asked to perform for BEYA in honor of Ms. Boler Davis was an opportunity I never would have imagined," Emily said. "Ms. Boler Davis is a person of amazing inspiration to women and the African American community. Her words of encouragement to me were humbling and motivational.
"Her ground breaking accomplishments in engineering and technology is something I look up to and want to emulate in the dance industry. I want to thank BEYA again for the opportunity to perform and note that its moments like those that keep me pushing forward," Emily said.
Emily, who is a graduate of the Academy for Performing Arts, was recently accepted at the University of Southern California.
