Denise Russell Fleming is a trailblazing pioneer. While she worked at one of the largest mobile network operators in the U.S., she became the first Black woman to be promoted vice president. Currently, she is the first African American female to serve in her current position at Boeing.
As vice president of information technology and chief information officer of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Denise is responsible for the IT strategy and delivery of digital and analytics capabilities across a portfolio of defense products spanning seabed to space.
Denise is part of the leadership teams of the CIO and the chief engineer of Boeing as well as that of the president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. She serves as an executive champion for Boeing Women In Leadership in the Potomac Region and champions diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through board service at several universities and non-profits.
"It is evident that Denise is an outstanding leader who displays a tireless commitment to inspiring her team and giving back to her community," said Pat Cazeau of The Boeing Company.
In 2014, Denise was one of the Career Communications Group (CCG) award winners that were inducted into the CCG hall of fame. The citation read in part:
Denise Russell Fleming is passionate about mentoring. She is a member of advisory boards for Women in Engineering in the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland and the information systems department in the School of Business at Howard University. Fleming earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1993 at the University of Virginia. Four years later, she earned her M.B.A. from Duke University. During her 13-year career at Sprint Nextel, one of her biggest achievements was delivering a $74 million savings in cost service.
Denise will receive the 2022 Career Achievement Award at the 36th annual BEYA STEM Conference, February 17-19.
