Registration is now open for the "Healthy Doses" seminar in the Boston Scientific Auditorium of the La Familia Wellness Center in STEM City USA, a virtual city that aims to bridge the gap for millions of underserved through community and education. Dr. Kapil Gupta, a senior director for endoscopy at Boston Scientific, will speak on obesity and its impact on health and wellness.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, overweight people are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, high levels of blood fats, diabetes, and cholesterol—all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. About 4 out of 5 African American women are overweight or obese. Black women have the highest rates of being overweight compared to other groups in the United States.
Dr. Gupta is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine –Gastroenterology and Obesity Medicine. He is a nationally recognized expert in endoscopic ultrasound and a medical technique known as ERCP, short for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. ERCP combines endoscopy and fluoroscopy to treat problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems.
Prior, Dr. Gupta worked at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He has served as an associate professor of medicine, a clinical chief for a digestive and liver diseases division, and a staff physician for interventional gastroenterology.
He has also served as CEO of Med Circle, a company established by doctors, internet pioneers, and service professionals dedicated to using technology to improve health education and positively impact doctors, practices, and community wellbeing. Med Circle evolved into a trusted online mental health resource. He also serves on the board of directors of Inner-City Arts, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit.
Gupta attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Delhi in India. He holds a master's degree in public health from the Department of Preventive Medicine at the State University of New York and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
