Hampton University's Department of Computer Science has announced a $3.98 million renewal grant from the National Science Foundation for the CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service program.
The CyberCorps: Scholarship For Service (SFS) is designed to increase the number of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure. Scholarships are funded through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation.
“This scholarship covers full-tuition, textbooks and travel expenses for professional development. Each SFS scholar will receive a stipend of $22,500 per year for undergrad and $34,000 per year for graduate students,” said Chutima Boonthum-Denecke, a computer science professor at Hampton and Principal Investigator for this grant.
In return, students make a commitment to work for the federal government following completion of their degree.
The program supports computer science, information systems, and cybersecurity students for two years as well as the two-year graduate degree in Information Assurance at Hampton University.
