Over 50 members of the Maryland National Guard provided support for the 38th Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference held at the Baltimore Convention Center from February 15-17, 2024.
The conference aimed to highlight the crucial role of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in shaping the future.
At the 2024 BEYA Conference, which recognizes the achievements of African American engineers, thousands of professionals and students interacted with Maryland Army National Guard recruiters to learn more about STEM-related roles and opportunities.
The recruiters had over 500 registered interactions with attendees and received 40 inquiries from individuals interested in joining the National Guard.
Attendees had the chance to sit in the cockpit of a 29th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and take a picture with it.
They also had the opportunity to sit in a Humvee, get hands-on demonstrations of simulated drone flying, and learn about how the National Guard leverages STEM expertise in its missions and operations.
